Fast forward to June 2024. Still using Windows 10 on all three machines. I was just about to bite the bullet and get a Mac Mini - because - why would I ever let MS stick it to me again.
But in May, I accidentally came across a review of this Windows 11 Pro, no-frills, low cost, low profile possible replacement for spouse's old laptop. Got it - and it works great! In particular, it has more memory, larger and faster hard drive, faster CPU, just the right amount of HDMI and USB ports. It also has WIFI 6, which means it runs much faster (300MBPS Down, 44 MBPS Up) with my WIFI 6 capable router from the back of the house.
As others have noted, it took several hours to download and install all the Windows updates. I also put BitDefender on it. Scanned with no issues.
Of course, this is no guarantee that MS won't stick it to me again. Look at all the AI activity going on. Who knows whether this will be updateable to a future Windows 12? But for the price, this has been a great choice to finally get a Windows 11 machine in the house without breaking the bank or forcing me to take a byte of the poisoned Apple.
